India Set to Host International Esports Championships: A New Era Begins

In an exciting leap for India’s esports industry, the Skillhub Online Games Federation (SOGF) has announced a strategic partnership with the International Esports Federation (IESF) to bring the prestigious International Esports Championships to India for the very first time. This groundbreaking initiative, supported by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, represents a significant milestone in positioning India as a global leader in online competitive gaming.

A Vision for the Future of Esports

In a pivotal meeting last week, representatives from SOGF, including its President Shankar Aggarwal, met with IESF General Secretary Boban Totovski and the Hon’ble Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. The focus of their discussions was on shaping the future of India’s esports ecosystem and enhancing opportunities for Indian athletes on the international stage.

Dr. Mandaviya expressed strong support for this initiative, underscoring the importance of developing a robust esports framework in India. He highlighted how such events could provide invaluable international exposure for Indian players while emphasizing the government’s commitment to fostering a fair and competitive environment for the industry.

    Transformative Potential

Shankar Aggarwal articulated the immense potential of this collaboration, stating, “We are extremely thankful to the government and IESF for turning things around in such a short period. This partnership has the power to transform the esports landscape in the country.” He noted that hosting international competitions will not only broaden the reach of esports in India but will also cultivate an environment conducive to nurturing talent.

SOGF’s governance is bolstered by its association with a diverse group of professionals, including Olympians and former high-ranking officials, ensuring a strong foundation for fair competition and transparency. With 29 associate state bodies, SOGF reflects nationwide support for advancing esports in India.

    Collaboration for Growth

To further revolutionize the perception of gaming in India, SOGF has also joined forces with the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA) and the Global Esports Federation (GEF). These partnerships align with SOGF’s mission to promote esports and skill-based sports at all levels.

Boban Totovski emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “Supporting the growth and development of esports communities globally has always been one of IESF’s key missions. We’re excited to see SOGF share the same values and work towards unlocking opportunities for athletes and esports enthusiasts in India.”

    A Step Towards Global Leadership

This partnership not only sets the stage for the International Esports Championships but also aligns with India’s aspirations to be a global leader in esports, especially with the upcoming Olympic Esports Games. The collaboration with IESF and support from the Government of India represents a significant step forward in creating a thriving ecosystem for Esports in the country.

As India prepares to embrace this new era, the future looks promising for gamers and fans alike. With world-class competitions on the horizon, Indian esports athletes are poised to showcase their skills on the global stage, marking a new chapter in the vibrant world of online gaming.
